The 6th International Symposium on Submarine Mass Movements and Their Consequences (ISSMMTC) will be hosted by the GEOMAR | Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel and the Cluster of Excellence ‘The Future Ocean’ in Kiel (Germany) in September 2013.

Authors of abstracts submitted before the first abstract deadline have the possibility to submit a full-paper manuscript for a book published by Springer, following the four successful earlier volumes. A second deadline will  also be available for those not willing to submit a paper. Oral presentations at the conference will be preferentially be assigned to authors of manuscripts.

Conference themes will include (but are not limited to):
  • Active vs passive margin landslides
  • Landslide at volcanic ocean islands
  • Preconditioning factors and triggers of submarine landslides
  • Landslide dynamics
  • Structure and stratigraphy of submarine mass transport deposits
  • Modeling of landslides and associated tsunamis
  • Geotechnical investigations of landslides and slope stability assessment
  • Seismic cycle and landslides (seismoturbidites)
  • Coastal impact of submarine landslides
  • Tools for analyzing submarine landslides (imaging, sampling, and dating)
  • Landslide precursors and early warning

The organizers of the event have already appointed the Local Organizing and International Advisory Committees as follows:
